“Full speed ahead! Branding? Oh… we’ll figure that out later.”
How it kills
Skips strategy and identity to “just get something out there.”
Launches with no clear story, no visual coherence, and no idea who it’s actually for.
Forces the team to retrofit a visual identity after the fact — usually in a rush, often in regret, always on a Friday at 4:58 PM.
Marketing materials come together like IKEA furniture without the manual. Or the right screws.
Customers arrive, mildly curious… and leave, deeplyconfused.
What Works
Patience is part of the process — launching without brand fundamentals might save time now, but you’ll pay for it later. Usually in revisions. And possibly therapy.
Build the foundation before putting up the sign, even if that foundation is temporary.
It’s okay if your brand evolves. It should. But launching with something intentional is better than scrambling with something forgettable.
If you must move fast, use a simple placeholder that holds space, not a last-minute logo disguised as “minimalist.”
Your logo, voice, and story aren’t decoration. They’re navigation.
Treat your visual identity as part of the product experience, not an optional extra.
And if you’re saying “We’ll fix it later,” remember: people are already watching.
Later may be too late.
