“It’s fine, we have a neon logo and use lowercase in all our emails.”
How it kills
The brand tries to stand out with quirky language, bold colors, or a serif no one can read.
Meanwhile, no one knows what it actually does.
Internally, the strategy meeting ends with “we’ll figure out the messaging later.”
To the outside world, it looks like a cool brand, but scratch the surface, and there’s nothing underneath.
After the initial enthusiasm, people start to drift. Because in the end, it’s just shouting “Look at me!” without ever saying why.
What Works
Take a step back and clarify what makes you meaningfullydifferent — not just visuallyloud.
A logo can’t do all the talking. That’s what your positioning is for.
Talk to realcustomers. Ask them what they think you do. If the answers vary wildly, that’s your cue.
Keep your brand voice, keep your bold design, but anchor them in a clearpromise people actually care about.
If you’ve already launched with just decoration, don’t panic. Refocus. Explain what you stand for now.
Your audience can forgive, but only if you let them in.
