BRANDING CRIME #14

The Copycat Curse

“Why stand out when you can blend in?”

How it kills

  • Looks exactly like competitors (same colors, same fonts, same website template).
  • Uses generic stock images instead of showing real people.
  • “If it works for them, why shouldn’t it work for us?” …Because you are not them, and now there are two. One will always be the discount version.

What Works

  • Identify what makes your brand unique and own it.
  • Competitor research is for learning, not cloning—adapt, don’t duplicate.
  • If your brand could be swapped with another by changing the logo, it’s time to rethink everything.
  • Be the original. Because in the long run, imitation isn’t just flattery—it’s an excellent way to be forgotten.
